Ft. Charles, Port Royal, Jamaica
Port Royal, Jamaica, commonly referred to as “the wickedest city on earth” is the basis for marauding pirates, daring naval conquests, looting, riches, destruction and devastation. It boasts an intriguing and turbulent history as it rapidly grew to become the most important trading post in the New World. At the height of its glittering wealth, on June 7, 1692, Port Royal was consumed by an earthquake and two thirds of the town sank into the sea.
Port Royal Revitalization Project:
Scope included concept design through DD and onsite art direction. Everything from architecture to props, weapons and costuming was addressed in the revitalization of key historic sites including the famous Fort Charles. The development of a new Cruise terminal and site was established first followed by re-creation/refurbishment of important locations. Historical accuracy was vital and design work was completed with the approval of the Director of the National Museum Jamaica and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust in concert with the office of the Prime Minister. Additionally, the PAJ was provided a 300+ page deck of ideas to implement as funds become available.
Port Royal is an ongoing, multi-year project based on cash influx from the tourism economy.
